New 360 D-Pad... Maybe even a 42Kmi exclusive...?!
So, I bought the transformer d-pad 360 controller. It was great and the raised-plus/recessed corners (however you want to call it) definitely made certain games easier. At release Microsoft chose to go with a platter-styled input for the 360 controller, meaning that even though the inner workings of the controller are similar to any 4-direction d-pad, the way this platter behaves puts emphasis on the diagonal corners for easier access. I don't quite understand why this was done since I can't think of anyone who needs to press a diagonal without just pressing whatever up/down and side combination to achieve the same result. But I digress.

So, back to the point, I was playing my 360 transformer d-pad the other day and, alas, it broke. Straight up shattered. Why? Two reasons come to mind:

1) The transformer d-pad, as ingenious as it is, is constructed from pretty weak part.
2) It is not the best construction for gamers who play games that are d-pad intensive (for me fighters)

But the raised d-pad made a difference in my gameplay. It was easier to put in certain forward commands without accidentally jumping in games like Super Street Fighter IV. But there were some flaws that weren't quite addressed. Besides what was listed above, if you tapped the top-left corner of the left direction of the d-pad, for some reason, it registers as a jump w/direction. I don't know why it does this, but it does, and I can bet that this is an issue for pad players anywhere. I don't think anyone should necessarily have to resort to a 3rd-party controller to correct certain issue, so 42Kmi is going to attempt a 3rd-party fix.

We're in talks to develop a replacement d-pad for the official 360 controller has the raised plus/recessed corners of the transformer d-pad, the solid/durable construction of the standard d-pad, and the corrects those accidental jump inputs when it's not wanted. In addition to those things, we're looking at adding some roughage to the d-pad for easy thumb gripping during play. And we're convinced this will improve your play, but to get this done, we need to have a strong awareness of this product. I know there is a demand, now just to find it.

That is a really cool idea. I will be mentioning this and the site in the next Street Fighter video I put up. I would be all over this, the d-pad is the only thing I dislike about the 360 controller.

Thanks. If enough interest and demand is raised, we could probably get something done. I was talking with a manufacturer and they told me that making a mold alone was about $3000 - $6000, something like that, and a lower price would be made if a large volume was purchased.
